There are many gourmet meals which you can prepare using the slow cooker or the crock pot. The recipes are innumerable with the slow cooker and choice of it can be made on the taste and time consumed in preparation. One such main course preparation is the corned beef recipe which is a dish in which the preparation time may take around 7-8 days. But after putting it that much time in it you won’t be dissatisfied with the great taste of the homemade corned beef and will enjoy the great taste with your entire family.

Here is a great recipe for homemade corned beef in your slow cooker.

Required Ingredients

* Requires around 10 cups of water
* 1 1/2 cups kosher salt for taste
* 1 cup of granulated sugar
* 2 tablespoons of dry mustard
* 3 cloves and garlic minced together
* Fresh beef brisket around 7 to 9 pounds
* Corned Beef and Cabbage
* 3 ribs celery cut in small size
* 2 large onions cut in wedges
* 6 medium red potatoes rightly halved
* 5 carrots also cut into thirds
* 3 tablespoons of pickling spices
* Cabbage, cut in 6 or 8 wedges

Preparation of Corned Beef

Start early so you can have the corned beef ready at the dinner table by the next weekend. The start of this dish is simple. What you need to do is to combine water, salt, sugar, mustard, spices, and 3 cloves minced garlic in large stock pot. Take care that the pot you use is a non reactive one. Make sure to boil this combination over high heat. When boiled properly set this mixture aside to cool ad after the liquids have cooled trim the corned beef of excess at and put it into this liquid. Transfer this combination to a large non-reactive bowl and make sure that the beef is properly submerged inside the liquid. If not, use excess cold water to submerge it properly. Once it is done cover the bowl and keep it in the fridge for the next couple of days only taking out once in a day to stir it lightly and turn the beef if required.

After a couple of days take out the bowl and rinse the beef properly. Place it in the slow cooker and mix properly with celery, onions, cloves and minced garlic. Cook it on low for next 21/2 hours to 3 hours in the slow cooker. After that open it and add the vegetables like potatoes, carrots, rutabaga and other as per your taste and liking. Cover the cooker once again and cook it again till the vegetables and meat is tender, which may take another 3 hours on medium. Serve warm ad savor it with your entire family.
